SBDP KickStarter Update

Big thanks to all the backers of the Rocked By Women project!

We have until May 22 to go to reach our goal of $6,000 on KickStarter or we get nothing (all pledges are returned).
If you haven’t yet, please consider giving a $10 (or more) contribution. To donate, click here:

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/sarahbushdance/rocked-by-women-premiere

We have been touched by the response so far from all who have contributed money and from several of the artists of the Women’s Music Movement who have written to us with their encouragement and thanked us for creating such a production.

Update on the creative side: we’ve been going through some amazing interviews that Holly Near, Judy Dlugacz and Barabara Hamilton-Holway have done for us, looking for “gems” to add to the sound score. The score should be finished by next week as well as most of the choreography. We are moving along with the video score next. Sunday we have a shoot scheduled with some girls and older women guest dancers. Irene Young, who shot many of the old album covers, has graciously given us permission to use these images in the video score for the show. Graphic design is finished for the merchandise like stickers, posters and t-shirts, and they are at the printer. And of course, the dancers continue to spend hours at rehearsal.

And now the money, the Kickstarter campaign: We are at 67% of our funding goal with only 7 days left to raise the remaining $2,000. Thank you all. If you are interested in doing just a little more, you can tell others about this project. We’ve already gotten contributions from people who do not know Sarah or anyone else involved in this show, but they saw a post about it on a friend’s Facebook page or got an email from someone. It does work. Share a link (http://kck.st/g6HuZG) or email along with short a personal note about supporting this project.

Again, we send a big thank you.

Note from Sarah Bush:
I would be so grateful for your support in finishing production of Rocked by Women.

We are now in the final push to finish production, fine tune the piece, and bring it to the stage—to an audience, to you.

I have had the opportunity to work with some of the most talented and dear people I know. The musicians, videographers, dancers, and writers who have dedicated their support to this project have helped me turn this long-term dream into a reality.

There is no way to put a value on the time and energy it takes to pull this kind of production together. In the spirit of paying homage, your donations will go toward paying these collaborators for their expertise, and to paying production and technical costs.

Rocked By Women

All our lives we’ve been rocked by women.

Cradled. Shaken. Moved.

Rocked by Women is a multi-media dance performance that pays homage to the bold amazing women musicians who rocked me into my first steps, and who continue to inspire me to be the woman I am today. It is a story of gratitude, love, movement, and empowerment though art.

When I was a small child, my mother cradled me while singing Cris Williamson’s lullaby.

The strength that I have gained from these women has empowered me to live boldly, to take up space, to move my body, to touch hearts and minds.

This project has given me the opportunity to reach out to these women and hear their stories. This wide range of voices, crossing musical genres, spanning decades, continues to be a wellspring in my life and for my work.

Rocked by Women is more than a night of dance. It’s a night of history. Reminding us of the courage it takes to live fully as women, as mothers, as daughters, and especially – as artists and leaders. Rocked by Women is a reflection on past revolutionaries and an offering for those to come.

Check out the awesome rewards you get for donating to SBDP on KICKSTARTER.
You could get something for as little as $5. That’s about what you’d spend on a latte.
And if you’re so moved, please spread the word to your friends who might also be interested in backing this project. Many people each pledging $5 can really add up!
