Sarah Bush Dance Project (SBDP) is a contemporary dance company based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Led by Artistic Director Sarah Bush, SBDP has brought Urban Contemporary dance to venues throughout the Bay Area since 1999. Sarah Bush wants to create dances that show strong, emotional, well-rounded women–dances that inspire all women to feel better about our place in the world. The company explores issues of identity, gender, and sexuality within the broader themes of love, relationships, loss, power and empowerment. A constant through SBDP’s work is the expression, emotion, and humanity in the dancers‘ performance quality. Sarah Bush believes it is the role of the dancer to perform with the truest, rawest emotion possible to not only receive a rich and satisfying performance experience, but also to act as catalyst for the audience’s full range of emotion.

SBDP’s most recent work, Rocked By Women, opened in the Spring of 2014 to enthusiast crowds in San Francisco. We will re-stage it on Mothers Day weekend 2015 in Oakland, and we look forward to touring the show throughout the US.
“Rocked By Women…what could be better than that! Spend an evening with these Dancers, these women, embodying a body of work, a body of songs that served as a group lift for so many people. Thanks to all of you for paying attention and paying tribute to this music, for revealing it all through the bold power of Dance.”
– Cris Williamson, Singer/Songwriter
“Rocked is a warm, skillfully created, and generous show that just might become a Mother’s Day tradition.”
“[Rocked By Women] would reverberate just as powerfully in an opera house as it did in the intimate Dance Mission Theater.”
“…a force to be reckoned with…”
– Rachel Howard, SF Chronicle
“…a modern dance bellwether.”
